Climate in Redmond

image From last Friday we are having very bad climate here in Redmond. It was windy, snow and very cold and it goes up to -8. I haven't been in this cold earlier and since it was below freezing and not used to those climates, its very difficult to go out. Today when I was coming to office it was -4 and though I have my jacket, cap which covers my head and ear, I couldn't able to walk and I can able to feel the freezing on my face. Once reached office it took us 30 minutes to come to normal. Wow...what a climate. This week it seems to be every colder.

Vista driver verifier

Today I came across a tool called "Verifier" for Windows Vista. It will verify Kernel-mode drivers and graphics drivers. While working, if we get blue screen and machine restarts, then this is the tool to verify the graphics driver. I had this issue and verified with this tool and rectified.

Also this tool can do the following:

  • Enabling Driver Verifier and Changing Settings without Rebooting
  • Enhanced Low Resources Simulation
  • Force Pending I/O Requests
  • Security Checks
  • More Thorough I/O Verification
  • Enhanced IRQL Checking
  • Miscellaneous Checks
  • Locked Memory Page Tracking
  • Additional Automatic Checks

To use this tool Start --> Run --> Verifier.

Millions of Life Magazine photos are searchable now

Now millions of LIFE magazine photos can be searchable using tags/photographers/events etc. in Google. Google launched this last week. Most of the photos are never made it to print. Now people can see how a photographer approach the subject more than the one that are published. Its a nice resource for photographers & designers.

Ice rain

Yesterday we had a very different experience here. It was raining heavily in the evening and after few minutes I was hearing a different sound. It was Ice Rain. It was very solid and for around 10-15 minutes it was there. Once it stopped entire area was covered by white ice. It was cold yesterday around 2 degrees. Nice experience...

Driving in LA

I was driving in Seattle for about an year and its easy to drive with all the traffic and as I am familiar with the place I know how people drive and how I need to drive. This week I was driving in LA in both freeways and in country roads and I feel it is similar to Indian driving skills. The traffic is huge and merging on freeways and country roads are very similar to my home country. I love both the places and its nice to drive.

Indian Intelligence

We are displaying in Digital Hollywood event this year showcasing our Vishwak Portal Framework (VPF) service for web portals and Mobile Content Delivery Services (MCDS) for mobile WAP sites. From yesterday there are some many interesting visitors and today one visitor came to our booth and asked me "Are you from India". I said Yes. Then he immediately reacted that you people are Intelligent and he saw our display of brouchers and posters. We displayed our front end and back end of our broucher and after seeing this he said, you guys proved that Indians are Intelligent by displaying this. He quoted he can't see that in any of the stalls. So this shows Indian Intelligence.

Happy to hear that and we are proud.

Why to take a risk

This morning I was travelling in a flight and due to heavy fog it got delayed for 1:30 hrs. After that everyone was onboard and the guy who sits before me was listening to iPod. While takeoff flight attendant told that person to switch off his iPod now and then he can switch back on after takeoff. First he said OK and after he left, he just ignored that and keep listening to music and till the end including landing he didn't switched off his iPod. Why because of his ignorance everyone in the flight need to take risk. Will people know the importance of it?. Its all for us only...not for the flight...

Customer support

Yesterday I went to few shops to buy a tonner cartridge. But I couldn't find any in the racks. So I asked the sales person, whether they have anything in stock or do they carry or will be available in few days. But the reply I got from them is "Don't know". It was very strange to me that as a sales person they should know those details. Even they didn't showed any interest in checking those. In a big store why the management or the concerned is not carying about these things? Is that because of these small things which is less than $100? Will they check and take care of the customer if they buy a $4000+ worth of Plasma TV? The funny thing is all the shops I went they told me the same answer without any change in the word. But finally I ordered thru online as always.

Seattle Vs. California

For this labor day weekend we went to California (bay area) and the trip was good. I feel like as if I am in my home country. The reason behind that is the climate is hot (105 degrees). In seattle during summer it was only couple days it went beyond 100. Rest all the days it was below that. While coming back to Seattle it was raining and the temperature it was below 70's. That's a total change in the climate and pretty much I can feel the difference. The city was nice and the roads are wide and it was good. I liked the city.
