Many of you would be seeing this message when you make a call especially from the Nokia device, despite there are no call forwards or diverts from your number. I came to know its due to voice mail and call waiting service enabled on your SIM by the Telco. if you are sick of seeing this message call up your provider ask them turn off both. The only caveat is you need to call them again if at all if you want to enable it again on your SIM which is very painful.

I don’t see this issue on any of Sony Ericsson devices which I have used so far.

New toy, which I am fiddling around since this morning. For some reason, I am not all comfortable with the Nokia devices, despite working with latest models like Nokia N82. Got this device, this morning at Vodafone Mumbai and I am impressed with the design and the multimedia features. Comes up with 8GB internal memory (note on board memory and not expandable) and 3.2 Mega pixel camera. The audio output quality is incredible both in loud speaker and also via headset. this phone comes with Symbian Operating system with the Standard UIQ wrapper of earlier models. I have quickly setup the exchange server and had issues in configuring it. Later I realized that, there is an issue with our exchange server in OWA and no fault in the device. Emails syncing is too good and has a push facility as well. the email will be pushed as soon as the email fetches the inbox. Very expensive while roaming and sucks big time battery life. The estimated street price is Approx Rs 25,000/- and weighs around 120 gms.

Imagine, that you want to check your email and download videos or make a call in Skype without booting your pc and get connected in fraction of seconds instead of waiting for 5 minutes ( and my vista parition takes almost 10 min ) to get connected.  Splashtop is a pre-boot environment which allows you to rapidly access certain applications without the need to boot your main operating system. its boots out of the BIOS on your PC motherboard, and launches a lightweight Linux stack capable of running certain applications like the Splashtop web browser, and the Skype VOIP program. The Splashtop environment allow you to open a web browser, check email, watch videos, instant message, and place VOIP calls within seconds instead of minutes. you can also run the main operating system like Windows Vista/ Linux.

I was upset initially, that i cant enjoy my republic day holiday, thanks to my daughter school function which we both have to attend.

I got up pretty early and attended the flag hoisting followed by school culturals. Post that, there was a fancy dress competition and coloring competition. We were narrowed to M S Subbulakshmi Sania Mirza and Subramania Bharathi and finally MS. Happy to share that she has won the first prize in fancy dress competiion ( she also sung kurai ondrum illai and few words about MS as well) and also in the coloring.

I am an avid Sony Ericsson user and have been using the P910i for the last 3 years now. For some reason, the display calibration went for a toss and stylus does not seems to be pointing correctly. I am forced to use the Nokia devices and picked up the Nokia N 82 when was in Vodafone last time. Its a proto device and am using it for the last one week. I am happy with the overall performance of the device.

Couple of points which are very impressive are

    1. Battery life is very good. charge once in 3 days
    2. Email syncing is pretty fast and had some issue in configuring the host address of my server. finally cracked it and frequently checking my emails on the device.
    3. Keypad is very good and its easier to compose SMS and emails.
    4. Camera quality is amazing and have even printed certain images. processing of image is pretty fast.
    5. has got a standard stereo jack on top for listening to music.
    6. Configuring WLAN is pretty straight forward
    7. Loaded with 128 MB memory only :(
    8. Easier identification of the application that are running in the background. shows a circle at the top of applications icon.
    9. Overall, its definitely worth it when comparing with other N series devices

I have been using the MotoQ for the last 10 days and its very disapppointing.

    1. people at the other end gets frequent voice breaking despite having good signal strength. need to move to various sides and have to keep the phone in certain fashion for the other side to hear what i am saying !!.
    2. calls are getting cut within few rings. I expect the phone to ring for few seconds.never had this issue with my Sony Ericsson P 910i.
    3. Browsing is Pathetic. I have noticed that after opening few sites if you leave the device for few minutes and then if you try to resume the browsing for some reason, it says locating and then shows the error message. Looks like, its not able to continue with the same session. I could not find the disconnect option which was very useful in PocketPC edition.
    4. One good thing which i have noticed in Windows Mobile 5.0 and above devices is the Internet Sharing utility. If you have WMDC on your laptop, ( WMDC has the network drrivers for the MotoQ modem) click on the internet sharing icon and choose the connectivity ( bluetooth or USB) and then say connect. you can now start browsing from the laptop

Google has come up with a new tool "knol", which stands for a unit of knowledge. According to their official blog, Our goal is to encourage people who know a particular subject to write an authoritative article about it. For me, it looks like a serious competition to Wikipedia. check this out.

Google is working on a interesting idea to increase keywords used for images search. Every user will be shown a random image and it will be paired with another partner who's currently online during that time. if the user label and partner label matches for an image, then both of them gets points. Worth checking this out.

I have searched for child care taker in bangalore and could not find one in Bangalore. The site supports 3 Indian Languages apart from English and the service is available only in Bangalore . they have plans to extend this to other metros as well. This was started by Sean Blagsvedt who earlier worked with Microsoft for 8 years.

One of my close friend is working with HP and they have started a new service called Digital Photo Printing. the web site url is http://www.snapfish.co.in/. I have tried their website offerings and its very easy to create an account and upload photos. they have got a cool activex control which is similar to skydrive.com to upload photos. they only charged me Rs 49 for the courier cost and i got it delevered within 3 working days including an album as well. its cheap, hassle free and definitely worth trying once.

I started using the Apple Mac way back in 1995. When i joined Wipro Apple division, I was given a very small Mac Machine Color Classic. I still remember the cute machine in color during those days. All the other teams were using the 14 VGA monitor and very few had a color monitor at that time. Mac is my first GUI OS after my college and for me personally i still feel that its the most easiest operating system that one can use. I have downloaded and saw the Leopard OS demo video and it was too good. Typically Mac users are very loyal due to their liking which is also similar to users who has Harley Davidson bikes or even Enfield bikes for that matter ( BTW, I have one and using it for the last 8 years now).

I could not control myself post the demo and started looking for a new Mac machine at home. Will keep you posted.
